Momentum & Trend Confirmation System
The RSI + Moving Average strategy pairs a momentum oscillator (RSI) with a trend filter (Moving Average) to time entries in the direction of the prevailing trend. RSI identifies overbought/oversold momentum shifts, while the Moving Average confirms the broader trend direction, reducing false signals that occur in counter-trend trades. — StockCharts ChartSchool
This strategy is provided as an educational example inspired by common public technical-analysis concepts and reference material. It is for research and product demonstration only and does not constitute investment advice.
Let P denote closing price. Assume daily bars with SMA(50) and Wilder RSI(14) already calculated from the preceding history. Read the signal only after the current bar closes.
This satisfies the RSI midline continuation rule. A hypothetical order placed after the close can fill no earlier than the next bar; the example does not assume a fill price.
Illustrative indicator readings, not a backtest or a return claim. A flat SMA or RSI remaining below 50 would fail this specific check; fees, slippage and stops require separate testing.
